A historic clock tower collapsed in flames in Limoges, France as rioting erupted in cities across the country on Saturday (Oct 17). While hundreds of thousands protested peacefully in street marches, violent fringe groups targeted public buildings, looted luxury boutiques such as Celine and Louis Vuitton. They also attacked police vehicles and officers. At least 1,200 people have been arrested. Protests which began in mid-September over teacher shortages have evolved into a broader movement focused on inequality, public spending and living standards. #france #FranceNews #protest #17octobre
