I swear by God that I only speak out because of hunger, poverty, and dire circumstances. My younger siblings and I have gone three days without food. Every hour, our landlord knocks, demanding rent and threatening to throw us out onto the street if we do not pay. O people with compassionate hearts—I swear by the One who raised the heavens and spread out the earth—there is not even a single day’s worth of food in our home; we are suffering immensely, relying only on the occasional help of neighbors. You who love your own sons and daughters—please know that we, too, are someone’s daughters, and we, are suffering in agony, yet no one looks upon us with a merciful eye....
