At the award ceremony, which took place in his hometown London, Harry Kane held back tears after receiving the Ballon d'Or trophy. Kane scored 73 goals in 65 appearances for Bayern Munich and the England national team last season beating other superstars like Kylian Mbappé, Lamine Yamal and Lionel Messi. The Ballon d'Or is awarded by a global jury of specialized football journalists, with exactly one representative per country. In the female category Alexia Putellas won the award for the third time. The Spanish playmaker starred for Barcelona, winning the Champions League and earning Player of the Season honors.
