The United Kingdom said Tuesday it will deploy fighter jets to defend Saudi Arabia against attacks by the Iran-allied Houthi rebels in Yemen. The UK will fly “defensive counter-air missions” using Royal Air Force Typhoon fighter jets to protect Saudi cities and critical infrastructure, the Defense Ministry said in a statement.
The conflict has been intensifying since the Houthis announced in July that they would target Saudi shipping in the Red Sea as well as infrastructure inside the kingdom, following a Saudi attack on the Houthi-controlled airport in the Yemeni capital, Sanaa. The Yemen government has urged the United Nations to designate the Houthis as a terrorist group.

The Grand Mufti of Saudi Arabia and Chairman of the Council of Senior Scholars, Sheikh Saleh bin Fawzan al-Fawzan, explicitly characterized the Houthis as a "misguided faction and deviant group" with a flawed creed. I think former US allies like the UK should hold off until after the midterms before committing any resources to anything that might help Trump. We've managed to stay completely out of the Iran war so far, and that's been a brilliant strategy for making it crystal clear who's responsible for all this chaos. Then, the moment the midterms are over, it'll suddenly be in Trump's former allies' interests to bring oil prices back down again.
