I went into an auto service shop today (Sunnyvale CA) to ask how much it would cost to get them to hook up my car to their diagnostic unit to find out why my check engine light was on. They said $300. That's today Jan 6,2026. Then I remembered Scotty on a youtube short. This one showed up, too.

This is Horrible advice, it's 1990s thinking. This is NEVER necessary and will end up costing you more. Did you possibly just forget to tighten your gas cap? Be aware that once the problem is fixed, the computer will turn off the Check Engine light itself without resetting. Plus, Repair shops and Auto Parts stores will read your Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs) for you for free, showing you which system is affected. You can also get a $10 code reader to keep in the car for when your Check Engine light turns on. When you reset your car's computer, you temporarily cover up a real problem that will develop into an expensive disaster that leaves you stranded, which could have been a cheap fix if you dealt with it when the Check Engine Light came on. Secondly, when you reset the computer, you wipe out the stored data stream the car's computer has been holding for the mechanic, as well as the adaptive strategy data it has learned over time to keep the engine running and the car driving at peak performance and efficiency. That data is critical and can save the mechanic hours if a diagnostic procedure is necessary. Remember, repair shops charge you for every hour a mechanic spends tracing the root cause of what broke. There is no set fee for a mechanic to navigate the nebulous mystery that caused your car's computer to detect a fault. Be proactive and save money, extending the life of your vehicle. Don't be blissfully ignorant of a gathering storm.

I’m gonna have to agree with you about big bills from dealers and some mechanics for the most part you’re right but all of us aren’t the same, that’s the same as labeling every certain job, every dog, cat and so on even race and i do not live life that way as many does not either when you say mechanics you should say some or most mechanics because i have a small mechanics business and honestly I actually got into this first because I love to help people especially those that have a family and just can’t afford much at all, i love to find something really easy so I can get the pleasure of saying you owe me nothing, like I say I have to agree with most garages love to charge the more the better no matter what, but not me and I know I can’t be the only one even if I was then sir’ you just labeled me and I don’t appreciate it so I’m only asking you to be careful about putting everyone in the same label, I say this because I care even for you very much so I’m asking you please be careful about the label thing….

When it comes to the a/c blowing cold on one side, and hot on the other, it can also mean you just need to add refrigerant, which is not an expensive fix. Even though your a/c system is labeled as a SEALED system, if your car is parked for a long period without the a/c being run, refrigerant can very slowly escape from the seal around your compressor pulley. EXAMPLE-I have a pristine 2013 Mustang GT 5.0 that I store in my garage from October to either April or May. Ever 2-3 years it needs refrigerant. I always test for leaks but none ever show up. It just happens.

I have a scenario. If you could give an idea of the possible fix, I would appreciate it. I have a 2021 honda crv 1.5l. My wife had met in an accident, and to me, the car was totaled. However, the insurance fixed it. It was fairly new and had 27000 miles. Since the accident, it hasn&#39;t driven so well, which I was expecting. 1. Whenever the car starts and begins driving, it has a winding sound, and it gets louder whenever breaking up. 2. If for any reason I have a sudden break-up, it moves sluggish and picks up a little after. 3. if it starts and does not warm up enough when it begins to drive and does a sudden acceleration, the engine starts to jump. There&#39;s no engine check light, No code was found when scan, so I changed the air filter and cleaned the MASS sensor. Thanks in advance for your response.

This video is AI BS. IOW, it&#39;s loaded with half truths, misrepresentations, and global claims that are true for some cars under some conditions, but are not global. Some of these &quot;tricks&quot; can be harmful on some cars and conditions. <br><br>A Code Reader is NOT an actual OBD Scan Tool, that can read additional data and sensor info. There are cases where resets will remove info needed for accurate diagnosis, which needs to be done first. <br><br>There is never a case where both battery terminals need to be disconnected to remove power. That&#39;s only needed if terminals need cleaning (which should be almost never if coated in vaseline inside and out), the battery tray needs cleaning, some obstructed bolt or light needs access, or the battery is replaced. Note how inconsistent this AI crap is with instructions to remove both vs negative only terminal. It makes no functional difference removing power which terminal is removed, but negative off first or only, on last, makes accidents with tools less likely. <br><br>Tire pressure? More BS. Yes, one should review door post or owner&#39;s manual info. However, if tires are changed, info for 35, 44, or higher psi tires should not be mismatched between vehicle info and tire series actually installed currently. <br><br>Really good mechanics are rare, as knowing the IT systems AND gross mechanical systems AND quirks of brands and models, is a high knowledge and skill level. Many mechanics rush to superficial diagnosis and repair estimates that call for replacing perfectly good parts that are profitable to sell, and ignore complex problems. A missing odd ground bolt on a wiring harness in an obscure location can cause weird issues with electronic controls, but 11 hours of electronics diagnostics under different operating cycles to find a 25 cent part isn&#39;t how many people think, or business models operate. <br><br>Linked infotainment and car operating and spyware systems, sold with devious, impossible to clearly understand contracts? Most cars from most manufacturers need some Luigi Care for Congress, the EPA, nearly all manufacturers, dealers, finance companies, and international cartels of info brokers. And, that remedy only removes major sources of the bad engineering design and worse corporate predators usage of corrupt lawfare, not fix the underlying malicious design defects, were it even possible. How can we cause that change?

None car people teaching none car people about cars LMFAO!<br>Yes please listen to him we don&#39;t really care? Why because it will be more expensive when your car does actually break down.<br>Most of the time the ECU has no problems and if it does it&#39;s something that Mechanics check for. Which means most of the time<br>It&#39;s working as properly as intended. So if your car dash lights up like a Christmas tree it actually means your car is pretty fuked lol<br>It probably also means you probably never changed your oil or didn&#39;t do any maintenance on your car. And it&#39;s going to die.<br>And sweety if your car doesn&#39;t turn on it&#39;s not the ECU. <br>It&#39;s either the battery is dead, the spark plugs are fuked, or there is something wrong with the ignition <br>And you can&#39;t fix that by restarting the ecu. And most of you wouldn&#39;t even know wtf you are doing and probably will delete the ECU which now makes you extra fuked.<br>And you just made things worse <br>And now you most likely will need to pay your car getting towed to a Mechanic and now you have to drop a couple hundred dollars to buy a new ecu.<br>The only time I have ever seen an ECU messing up that bad is because it&#39;s old. Other then that it works fine and doing its job.<br>And letting you know what is wrong with your car. Sure you can choose to ignore it and then you have to pay more money then you would have to if you just got it fixed as quick as you can.<br>If you have something broken in you home you fix it right?<br>Why does that shit stop when it comes to car? The difference between car and a fuking home is a car will tell you there is something wrong.<br>This is littlerally having an alarm in your home and it goes off saying &quot;hey someone is trying to break in&quot;<br>And you&#39;re like &quot;Nah bet your just glitching&quot; and ignore it. But hey if you want to take a road trip and be stuck out in the middle of no where <br>With no help that your deal lol<br>No what you do is find a mechanic or car person you can trust and ask them to check out your car.<br>I&#39;m a car girl my car will always our last any of your cars because I actually take care of it. And work on my own car. <br>Oh and for real if you hear a knocking sound and you are still driving your car lol you are really fuked lmfao! Why? Because it means something is wrong with your engine block and because you continued to dive it and not get it fixed you&#39;re doing more damage to your engine. Meaning now you will have to drop either 5 Gs (5,000)<br>To get a junk yard engine to 15-30 Gs if you get a new engine just to fix it. But wait it does stop there.<br>Because it takes a lot of work and a lot of time to take out the engine from your car take off all the parts from your car then rebuild the new engine you bought and installing it into the car again. Which means you will be dropping some major bank on your car.<br>But ya sure jist reset the ECU<br>Btw ECU mean Electronic Control Unit. Meaning this is the computer <br>That tell how much gas to air ratio to use. EMS is(Engine Management System) this is what monitors everything. If any of your dash light come on it will the EMS<br>That is tell you. Not the ECU<br>So listen to a car girl, that is a drifter, that grew up around cars and have friends and family that is all into racing and know about cars to.<br>Or listen to this dumbass that doesn&#39;t know what he&#39;s talking about? <br>Choice is your.
