This Pilot said above 20 k feet he stays 20 miles away from a storm. This pilots were flying inside a Big thunderstorm

Nobody has asked the question if he knew the pilots were inexperienced before he got his whole family and friends on board!? Jesse, this interview is way too geeked out for me. Let’s get to the bottom line of why this happened!

It is all very simple: they flew into the middle of a thunderstorm (which you should never do) the tailplane got ripped off and without any vertical control they became a lawndart.

flyguy212
@flyguy212Imported11h ago
Regardless they should not have flown into the storm. That being said the radar in the flight deck doesn’t always convey how severe a weather formation can be. However you can still see the tops of clouds and you don’t want to fly into clouds with tops that are greater than the cruise altitude.
It’s easy to play armchair quarterback when you are not in the actual situation.
May they all rest in peace, may their families Hearst be filled with fond memories and opportunities to reflect and smile when they cross their minds.

It is very possible that the pilot was using all his force to strong arm control of the aircraft in the stall/dive. Still, when operating so far outside the yellow airspeed caution envelope for using control inputs that manipulate the aerodynamic control surfaces such as the horizontal stabilizer, the extreme forces at work could have sheared off the stabilizer, sealing everyone’s fate. However, that would not be considered ‘pilot error’. More like throwing a hail Mary in an already likely fatal situation. It’s pretty clear here in the early going at least, that the aircraft iced over way faster than anyone expected and the Lear jet simply became a super heavy, now far from aerodynamic iceberg falling from the sky.

Question is did the stabilizer break off at 35,000 feet which cause them bank 60 degrees, then eventually nose diving? Soon as she said mayday. The stabilizer was already gone. Which caused them to dive nose down

2028. [1]

Why the Law Was Created

This safety mandate stems directly from the investigation into the 2018 Southwest Airlines Flight 1380 incident. During that flight, a fan blade snapped off mid-air, shattering the engine's outer cowl (nacelle). Pieces of the housing flew into the fuselage, shattering a passenger window and leading to a fatal cabin depressurization. The NTSB determined that the original housing design was not strong enough to contain the force of a broken fan blade.

Yes, a fan blade shattering in an uncontained engine failure could absolutely damage the tail of a Learjet 60, and in extreme engineering scenarios, it could lead to structural failure of critical tail components.

The primary reason for this is aircraft geometry. Unlike commercial airliners that hang their engines under the wings, business jets like the Learjet 60 mount their engines on the rear fuselage—placed directly in front of and beneath the tail section. By the way, that crater wasn't filled with all rainwater. One of the earliest videos of that crater, shot immediately after the impact, clearly shows a water main gushing water into the hole. One of those underground water mains that got shattered. Either which way, the crater filled up quite a bit with water. Until that water is pumped out, they won't be able to really begin excavating the aircraft.

That day storms were building up stronger than they started. This whole area was covered with storms. I know-I was out working in it. This is tragic and didn't need to happen but I am so grateful the plane hit just right as to not hit a house (friends less than 1/4 mile away) a car or a business. I cry every time I hear her transmission. So young but she still was transmitting data like the 60% pitch etc. SAD.

There's things I have always said about bad weather conditions. Back in 2015 I took a flight from Miami to New York for Christmas, it was exactly December 23rd 2015. On our way passing the Carolinas, there was a huge storm that made out flight a terrified one. A lot of heavy turbulence, and it felt at some point it was losing altitude.
And since that day, I avoid to travel on winter, specifically with those weather conditions. That was my second bad experience on air, with a weather like that.
I think airlines should do more restrictions and don't put people on situations like this. As well as private flights. I keep thinking and saying, even the aviation experts don't consider this as a influence to cause a tragedy like this one, I really do belive is extremely dangerous and can cause situations like this tragic one.
May all those souls rest in eternal peace!

It’s incredibly touching to see how empathetic and compassionate every pilot I’ve seen speak on this topic as an aviation expert. It’s always helpful to have technical experts explain to the general public what could be possible. But the depth of raw emotion these pilots have shown is memorable as much as the tragedy. Finally, no judgment, just a respectful awe at what has been lost to so many and to their families. May peace be with them.

To me, it's pretty obvious what happened here. I believe part of the vertical stabiliser broke away, causing the aircraft to suddenly lose stability and begin its rapid descent. As it banked approximately 60 degrees and came back around on itself, this would explain why the main wreckage was found only three-something miles from where the vertical stabiliser was found. All of this happened in an incredibly short space of time.

It's possible that another part broke away during the descent, but I believe the initial reason the aircraft suddenly fell out of the sky was the vertical stabiliser breaking away. I have very little doubt in my mind about that.

This a was nothing but a horrible accident. The plane was in the wrong place at the wrong time. Developed icing and turbulence. Icing is a death sentence on these private jets. Ad turbulence? And it’s a disaster. These private jets have limited deicing ability and limited radar. It’s not like a state of the art passenger jet

It was the copilots job to check the weather and avoid the storm cell instead she was texting her boyfriend and has an active social media profile while flying. Further to this she was reprimanded before for flying into a storm and minimizing the danger it posed. She was incompetent because she failed to check the weather and wasn't vigilant and diligent and as a result cost 9 people their lives

Okay I've seen a lot of comments saying it's their fault for going into the storm, first there's only one pilot and co pilot, as far as the five others I don't think they had much to do with, second they were going around the storm and literally the storm they got caught in blew up in just seconds, had they been one mile north or south they would have missed that cell. I love how all the Monday morning quarter backing geniuses are alright so right to bad they weren't flying the plane that crashed.
