There seems to be a very disturbing trend in this country when a male teacher that would have impregnated a young student would get 30 years but if a female teacher commits the same disgusting act they would get either 2 or 3 years maybe. Despicable double standards!

As crazy as this case is, she was definitely overcharged. There was no way that these charges were ever going to actually stick, particularly with a victim that was unwilling to assist in the prosecution. She should have been charged with CSC, and she would have ultimately probably gotten a longer sentence, even with a plea deal. The prosecution screwed this case up. CSC would have been an open and shut case even without the victim's testimony.

The idea behind punishing , this type of offender is the fact that it causes trauma to the victim. In this case, the victim does not feel traumatized by the experience. I do believe that the victims should have the final say in how severely the offender is punished. As wrong as it was, there is a child involved in this case that didn't do anything wrong. If the victim doesn't want her incarcerated, it's harming the child that came out of this situation more than it's helping anything else.

This report is playing pretty hard and loose with age ranges. If the if you start it when he was 11 no doubt, she’s a predator. If he is currently 21 and the child is five, he would’ve been 16 as of the child’s birth, still a minor, but not 13. And still wrong and illegal.

My heart aches for that young boy. When an adult teacher becomes sexually involved with a middle school student and has a child with him, we need to recognize the seriousness of what happened. A child cannot be expected to understand or carry the responsibility for an adult's actions. The responsibility belongs to the adult, especially someone entrusted with educating, protecting, and guiding children and this is why I believe we need to look deeper at childhood trauma, abuse, and the long term effects of experiences that are never addressed. We need to stop normalizing or romanticizing adults exploiting children, regardless of gender. Boys can be victims too. They deserve to be believed, protected, and supported. ❤️

I had an uncle by marriage, that had that happen to him at 12 yrs old by his teacher and that would've been 60 + years ago. I can't imagine how many other victims there was over 60 years ago, by that same teacher that SA my uncle. We can't trust anyone with our children, no one! 💔

The federal justice department needs to get involved with these cases, and take these cases from the state courts. Female teachers are given light sentences because of their gender. Male teachers are held to a higher standard, and will receive a maximum sentence. If these predators receive decades in prison, other potential predators will think twice before they abuse children.
