Very appropriate, a news host named Kassandra. As for the subject, "free trade" is a myth. Mislabeling.

Very one sided talk, the economic structure is not discussed, I feel they were just describing an established system and then giving their interpretation (that’s where they disagree). A more productive discussion involves exploring the failures, recognizing the causes and reaching the alternatives.

Free trade, not the first thing that comes to mind with the EU.I think Europe has a lot to like but does any country truly embrace free trade, not totally before and not now.

Economic pressure in form of sanctions, and those who engage in this are lucky that their victims are usually reactionary like china who only put restrictions on rare earth's minerals.

This was a great interview. Top marks. The key insight I see is that US, China, and Russia put forward economic/military models that put technology above the welfare of the populace. Because tech is SO powerful, this is working and is likely to continue to work. With aging populations, Russia's plan goes nowhere. Europe needs to build their economy at a breakneck pace at the expense of the public. That is not a pretty concept but an economic reality. The problem of course is this is political suicide under the current system. This is why far left/right parties are gaining ground and maybe they have to.

It's not about Europe rises or falls.
It's about destructive competition, and the rest of the world trying to find alternatives.
As for free trade it is dead for some time already.
What EU have is fair trade agreements.
As for industrialization of other countries...
China have a brutal issue with it..
High-tech goods require certain levels of trust in manufacturers integrity.😅

🌍 The age of globalization may be ending.
Countries aren't just competing with armies anymore. They're competing with tariffs, export controls, sanctions, subsidies, critical minerals, and technology. One guest argues Europe needs far more economic confidence. The other argues Europe risks overestimating its power in a world increasingly dominated by the US and China.
Who has the stronger geo-economic strategy right now: Europe, the United States, or China? And where do you think Europe will stand 10 years from now?
👇 Make your case.

Free trade is only good when Western countries are maximizing profits and the rest of the world is dependent on them NOT when they get beaten in thier own game right 🤔

If Europe stopped letting in millions of people that then, need to work and be fed.... And many of them unskilled and a financial drag. Then EU and China could sit down and decide how to split the pie, even as EU population ages even faster than China's. But China isn't about to subsidize Europe's folly of just opening their doors without a plan or skilled/monied people !!

Has Europe ever been a free trade region? They may not have much tariff but their governments have all kinds of tools to moderate and regulate internal economies for imports. The US federal government does not have much of such a tool because they are strong market economy. That's why they use tariff.
@frankshen2739

I fully support the EU raising import tariffs on Chinese products to 200%. By what right do Chinese companies export cheap high-tech products to Europe and disrupt the pricing system in European market? By what right do Chinese companies pass on large amounts of Chinese government subsidies which is targeted to chinese consumers to European consumers? It is time to end this unequal trade. We should let ordinary Chinese people enjoy cheaper high-tech products, and also allow European companies to survive. European peolple are rich, can afford higher price and support ”made in Europe”

The EU also claims to be against state financing of companies.... for decades now, initiatives that would serve the publics interest have been banned or sabotaged by the EU, harming the most needy, the poorest... because, their credo is 'state financing is banned in the EU" .....apparently giving HUNDREDS of BILLIONS to 'defence spending' which ALL ends up on the balance sheets of private companies... is not State Funding? When it CLEARLY is exactly that.
