For years, the US dissuaded Europe from buying Russian energy resources in the name of achieving energy independence. Yet now, the US itself is buying Russian diesel and planning to lay a gas pipeline across the Bering Strait. Meanwhile, Europe has been left without Russian and Middle Eastern fuel and is now completely dependent on the US.
Wasn't there a film where the POTUS was a Russian spy? If not they can make it now.

The amounts involved will have a negligible impact on US diesel prices, so Trump is really just signalling his loyalty to Putin with this move.
