This will take time, and progress was already evident by the second half. You can already start to see a tactical identity forming, and if one or two of our second half shots on goal would have gone in...Speaking of which, the plays that lead to those chances were dynamic, creative and fun to watch. Let the work continue and Forza Italia

The problem when speaking about this is that pundits have no idea about Italian football. They very fairly stopped paying attention progressively since 2006 but there is IMMENSE talent in Italy. A LOT of young players with incredible talent, but you can’t simply throw them into the fire and expect them to perform when they haven’t been brought up in any sort of cohesive system. It’s particularly difficult when you hire a coach who shouldn’t be there and you keep your core of Italians who have failed miserably time and time again.

Italy reminds me of Bulgaria. Bulgaria were great in '94, Italy have always been great. Both countries ruined their leagues, they don't give the young the chance to play and get better, the youth academy system is a joke in both countries - no wonder no youngster is becoming a good football player from these places. Italy would need dacades to recover. It takes time

The Nations League is a Mickey Mouse cup anyway so I’m not really that bothered about loosing in a competition which is pointless but gives Italy good chance to cap players who can represent other nations so they are stuck with Italy in the long run 🇮🇹👍

the problem is the youth development. Italy is lacking creative and technical players. they still have good defenders and goalkeepers. even some decent midfielders. but they're lacking quality forwards and attacking-midfielders. i don't know if it's the state of Serie A or just bad luck, but they need to look at France and Spain's youth infrastructure and try to emulate it.

Mancini is not that kind of coach. They keep saying Italy won the Euros, well, on penalties, with Donnarumma. And before that, it was under Mancini that Italy did not get into the World Cup. Mancini is not a power coach. He’s a dainty dandy type of coach who wants his players to look pretty i.e. a bad copy of *il calcio spumante*. So, no, Gabi, you’re off base...

Italy will not rise again not with the attitude of leadership and fans. They're set in their ways and unwilling to grow.
The clubs are ruining Italian talents and yet fans go to the stadiums to support them. Many of the young prospective talents are playing abroad because if they stay in Italy, their careers will be ruined.
Also, why is DiLorenzo playing while Kayode is on bench? This stupidity and old school mentality is what will cause Italy to miss the next WC.

I think Marcotti is trying to avoid saying the truth. Italy is ashamed of this national squad. However, it is OUR squad and it reflects the status of football in our country. The population love the game but clubs have allowed themselves to be completely overrun with non Italian talent and it’s probably worse than ever. This is why Maldini’s plan was so radical. And also why the clubs worked to get rid of him once they saw that he was going to take the job seriously. The national team under this management and leadership is destined to fail. Because they’re pretending to change things without doing anything to make the clubs field more Italian talent in their line ups. Count the number of games over the last 2/3 seasons when clubs like Milan and Como did not start with a single Italian on the pitch. It is shameful to have clubs that don’t provide viable options for the national coach.

How is Premier League Kayode who is doing amazing for Brentford for the past two years not even on the bench let alone the starting line-up. He has everything Italy need speed, power, skill and a long throw and is ignored, The racial bias of Italian football needs to stop or they will never be a big nation again. They need to embrace the diversity of the country like England, Spain and France did or they will become a small football nation.
