They should perhaps also look at the tax relief on pension contributions given to higher rate taxpayers. That is a vast sum. One might then also ask how many of those people suggesting removing the triple lock fall into this category? Lets means test the state pension against their pensions.

The tax relief on pensions is unaffordable, not the triple lock.
@alanrogers9597

Easy answer, stop using NI to bolster up the tax. £13,000.00 isn't a lot of money to retire on after paying NI for 40 years at 10-8% of income... We all get old, even young people

If the state pension just rose by the average earnings element over the past 10 years, then there would be an £8 per week difference. if the state pension rose by CPI over the past 10 years, then there would be a £28 per week difference. If the triple lock was to be ditched, which one do you think the government would go for?
If the government wants to solve the issue with the state pension, it should start now, with people starting work, telling them their NI contributions will not pay for their state pension, so you must start a private pension now, not to tell 70-year-olds that the state pension that you were sold as, it was YOUR pension that you were paying your NI contributions for, not that it is a benefit that you might not get.

Tax working age welfare benefits, not pensions.

If the government can use tax payers money to pay for hundreds of thousands of illegal immigrants finding the funds for the state pension isn't a issue.

UK pensioners are paying for these 3 people to sit in a warm studio, give them free food and drink, an extraordinary wage, early retirement and a generous pension. Each of these pointless ‘Let them eat cake’ commentators’ could each cover the cost of two dozen state pensioners. The hypocrisy stinks.

We are a rich country and should fund bigger pensions. Unaffordable is a political choice.

C’mon old people, be a good sports and redirect your hard earned pensions to finance accommodation of uninvited guests in more picturesque locations in Oxfordshire.

Or else media wizards will call you something bad. This is all like a Monty Python sketch.

How can the UK state pensions be unaffordable. These people have paid in all of their lives and receive one of the lowest pensions in Europe. At the same time the government is over spending on working age welfare, private sector contracts, public sector enumeration, giving it away, fraud, corruption, waste, immigrants, vanity projects, Ukraine, green energy, the BBC… It’s a matter of priority and state pensions should be near the top. If the government stoped pouring our money down the drain and enriching themselves the affordability of state pensions wouldn’t come into question. Turning on pensioners as an easy target is disgusting. What are they meant to do? Starve and die of cold? Senior public figures, CEO’s, bankers and corporations are getting rich. There needs to be some criminal accountability in regards to how this country’s tax revenues are being squandered.

Why do these morons keep targeting our pensions. We paid our way, we earnt it. You don't like it? Try taking it away and see what happens.

Well if the government minister on bbc breakfast this morning said she is worried about the number of houses with multiple occupations then pensions will become unaffordable as the government only wants one person working per household

Well considering it will now be taxed and given back to HRMC I’d say yes. Better yet get the illegal immigrants, sorry migrants 😂 to do some work and pay some tax.

It won't look good if there are a bunch of destitute pensioners living on the street. It will look even worse to raise the pension age with the excuse of "people are living longer", because it amounts to robbing people of years of their retirement. Every time I hear the UK government talk about old age pensions, it reminds me of Boxer, the workhorse from Animal Farm. The pigs promise him retirement, and a green field and no more work. What became of Boxer in the end? Carted off in the knacker's wagon.

It's been mostly downhill for the UK since the British Empire ended, colonialism ended, a generation of Tory leadership stripped the country dry, and after all that they made the boneheaded decision to vote Brexit.
