I am genuinely glad that these people were able to be rescued. But why is this whole situation being presented as a great achievement for peace, as if the war were already over? Why is nobody talking about the fact that these people lost their homes because of the Russian occupation? Why are representatives of the occupying country being welcomed at the White House as partners in a humanitarian mission, while Russia’s responsibility for what happened is barely mentioned? Saving lives is an act of humanity, but it should not become a way to whitewash the aggressor. This is not peace. It is only a temporary humanitarian pause during an ongoing war.
