Progressive Democrat Abdul El-Sayed has won the US Senate seat for Michigan, defeating Republican opponent Mike Rogers in one of the nation's most important swing states. El-Sayed will now become the first Muslim senator in US history, helping his Democrat party regain control of the Senate.
