Not gonna lie, I had Merab winning this one at first. It came down to Merab's volume opposed to Yan's damage. <br><br>He absolutely earned that victory.
When Merab was dominating 2-0, DC said Yan comes alive in the later rounds and could take 3 4 and 5. That was exactly what happened. Yan is amazing!
Petr Yan has shown he is one of the all time Greats. Remember how he lost his title to Aljermaing Sterling and how he has fought his way back to take the gold from Merab and beat him for a second time to retain it.

I feel merab botched it big time in the third round considering petr was struggling with merab's pace. <br><br>During that 3rd round his way of setting up the jab jab takedown ( 1st, 2nd rounds) was completely nullified once merab went to shoot ever other second without any setup that completely took away the pressure which he was creating in the fight and petr capitalised on this superbly .🔥

I don't know if Islam really defeated Chris Wade, Volkanovski, Mansour Barnaoui or not. Ian Garry definitely won 3rd and 4th rounds. Islam Makhachev didn’t land a single significant strike in 5th round. Old Islam’s cardio is bad. He couldn’t submit featherweight Volkanovski and can Jack.
