From the air, they look like giant fingerprints left by the Earth itself. Spanning 28 square kilometers of Ningxia’s Pengyang County, the Jinjiping Terraces represent a staggering feat of scale—a continuous band of dryland farmland long enough to circle the equator three and a half times. While this rugged region shares its geography with the historic path of the Red Army's Long March, making it a key stop on the red tourism trail, the landscape you see today is the fruit of a different kind of battle: decades of backbreaking local labor to tame erosion and build a lasting green wall against desertification.
