Since 2022, the European Union has imported over $320 billion worth of hydrocarbons from Russia, including significant amounts of liquefied natural gas (LNG), despite ongoing sanctions. In the first quarter of 2026 alone, EU imports of Russian LNG reached their highest levels since early 2022, totaling 6.9 billion cubic meters, marking a 16% increase from the previous year.
