French president Emmanuel Macron is paying his customary visit to the Paris Motor Show this morning. This year's show sees electric and hybrid vehicles in the spotlight as European carbuilders seek to roll back years of sliding sales. The sector has been given a boost by China's commitment to stem the flow of Chinese e-vehicles, and some builders, such as the multinational Stellantis are betting on small affordable electric cars to win back customers. And one of the models it has lined up is an electric reboot of a French classic: the Citroën 2CV. FRANCE 24’s Charles Pellegrin interviewed Citroen CEO Xavier Chardon.

Stellantis is a TERRIBLE car manufacturer! And by the way, those who even vaguely remember the 2CV are dying out; good blooming luck!😂

Great strategy, double down on heritage and leave the cheap products to Chinese manufacturers. Think of EU car manufacturers as variants of LVMH.

The car's profile looks more like the Fiat 500 than any 2CV, and does look awkward. With Ai, and computers generally, car manufacturers should focus on making a truly affordable car, without any gadgets and even electronics so that people can repair their own cars without having to go to expensive specialist garages, while the car should have an excellent mileage to litre of petrol, or battery recharge, yet the battery is still a dream of the future, since it is too bulky to be economical. Panel moulding should be kept to a minimum for cost savings. Given current manufacturing know-how, it is disappointing to see what appears to be so much unnecessary costs built in the car we see behind the Citroën CEO.

Dear European car industry - simplify cars ,make them affordable and simple to fix and maybe, just maybe you might sell lots of them.

I didn't even know Macron was in France, he never is... he's constantly traveling all over the world acting like he's the President of Earth while ignoring his own country's demise.
