this sounds horrible. We as a society seem to struggle eliminating this toxic fraternity culture from campuses. having said that, it is hard to forget the Duke lacrosse team case. As you may remember, those boys were punished very harshly but at the end it all turned out to be based on a lie. the accuser went to prison, the DA lost his license. We just need to be patient and wait for the due process. Lets not jump on the throat of these young men. Lets be calm.

Not to be picky about words, but it always makes me wonder why they refer to women who have been raped as survivors. They are victims of a violent crime. But most women who get raped do not die come so it’s kinda not a survival thing. If they get killed in the process of being raped, then they are a victim of murder And the sexual assault is another charge. I’m very tuned into our language and how words are used, and the way they change all the time to suit situations to make them more impressive or less impressive or whatever. Rape, a horrific crime of violence, and to drug a woman, and then rapper is beyond fathoming. Nevertheless, how we use words is interesting, doesn’t always make sense to me, but I studied writing, once worked as a proofread for a newspaper, so I kind of have a meticulous focus on words.

I graduated from Cal poly Humboldt a college that a lot of people like to make fun of because of marijuana. But we have a very safe community with less than ten incidences of sexual assault per year. We do have some fraternities but our system is not based upon it. We do not choose our leaders by having a bunch of drunken elitists spanking each other in a frat party

Most people are coming down heavy on the young men and the University, which is well deserved, but we are remiss as a society if we don't examine the behavior of society as a whole, including parenting, young college women, and yes, this poor young woman learned a hard lesson, which I'm sure she will never repeat, but let her lesson be a lesson to everyone. We can all learn from this.
