Ukraine's president Volodomyr Zelenskyy used his UN General Assembly speech to warn about Russia's growing drone threat and to push for renewed diplomatic efforts. But as Moscow deploys new jet-powered Shahed drones, is the war moving closer to negotiations or further away from them?

Currently, Russia is using relatively few missiles for these attacks; mostly, it uses jet‑powered drones, which are extremely difficult for Ukraine to shoot down. The most interesting developments will begin in mid‑ or late October, but that’s not the main point.. Russia has tested Oreshnik missiles twice in combat conditions in Ukraine and has not used them again. The range of these missiles is 5,500 kilometres, so these weapons are not intended for Ukraine but for Europe; the question is where and when they will be used.
