Russia calls itself an energy superpower. So why are Moscow drivers now spending hours looking for gasoline? Following the latest Ukrainian drone strikes on Russia's oil infrastructure, fuel shortages are spreading across Moscow and the surrounding regions. Some stations have kilometer-long queues, while others have little or no gasoline available. Private gas stations are also reportedly shutting down. And the problem goes far beyond the gas station. Analysts estimate that Russia is already facing a massive shortfall in gasoline supplies, forcing the Kremlin to pour more money into the fuel market while borrowing heavily to cover the growing costs.
For ordinary Russians, the result is simple: longer lines, higher prices, and increasingly empty tanks. Meanwhile, fires at Russian refineries keep raising a rather inconvenient question: why are they burning in the first place?
In a new episode of Break the Fake, Jonasz Rewiński looks at Russia's worsening gasoline crisis, the impact of Ukrainian strikes on its fuel industry, and the growing economic cost of the war.
