The slumlord/Airbnb model has been a gold mine for speculators and a disaster for everyone who actually needs a home. Housing needs radical change. Centrist liberalism has spent decades dressing up free-market shenanigans as policy while housing becomes increasingly unaffordable. It has failed spectacularly.

I think the biggest issue today is that wages don't keep up with inflation. If costs of living go up 15% and salaries go up 15% no one would complain. In the current trickle down economics, and in a lot of socialist governments in the EU (like germany) you end up spending most of your salary just for tax (income tax + VAT + food tax + fuel tax,..) and bills which increase faster than salary increases. Of course people are unhappy and want change. The wealthy can afford to buy up assets (housing / bonds / shares) which generates pretty good returns. BUT it is returns just for people with enough capital to actually invest. So growth continues, but only for people with existing capital, the taxes and costs trap majority of the people in a cycle of spending everything and not noticing the growth. Of course people are unhappy...

Don’t worry , Turkey is happy over this success . Germans should worry about their economy.

Regarding the AfD we should wait and see how it fares in the states of former West Germany. So far, they won in two states in the former East Germany with a below German average immigrant population.

we are being colonized in New York. Native New Yorkers are terrified. Over a million muslims moved in. Young children of rich parents want to rebel and moved from other parts of the country have no connection with New York, except a a desire to destroy us. Native New Yorker and people here 20 years voted for Cuomo over Mandami. They have a different personality than New Yorkers. It was always a place for people who had ambition and a desire to work hard. Now they come here just to tear down those that are successful.

WE NEED TO SOLVE THE HOUSING ISSUE WORLDWIDE. HOUSING IS FOR LIVING IN IT!!! Not for speculations and hoarding. Wr need to fight with greed. We have the same issues in Poland

Rents need to freeze like from the money I get per month 67% is to rent and I live on the border of that city... Entire Europe needs the rents to drop like 30%...

My apartment should be around 30% of what I earn and it was that around 2010-2015, then after 2015 insanity hit and it has now increased by almost 50%, by almost 80% since 2008...

Like NO wages are increasing at the same rate a construction worker does not earn 1.8 times more now than in 2008 so how can they even assume a person can pay 1.8 times higher rent?!?

Because cities function on civility(civil society), not on thugdom, the modern right's fiefdom-style leadership, where oligarchs kill, pillage, and assault anyone they feel like with impunity, is fundamentally incompatible with life in a city-state and its values, even if you are a right-winger.

As a cultivated man with a cosmopolitan outlook, I advocate for the idea of an internationalist, cosmopolitan Left that welcomes creative and interesting people from all over the world. Paris is a prime example of this: beyond the great French artists, one need only think of the foreign artists who lived or spent time there—people who worked, studied, exhibited, visited, or resided in the city.
