Correction Kara, the current AI’s will not on their own cause the potential problems but future AI’s that will reach a threshold where their actions can and will be independent of human monitoring and solely on their own pose a potential threat. No laws enacted to hold humans responsible will prevent these future highly intelligent AI’s from becoming independent bad actors.

I think i worked out why 🇺🇸 version is less funny. In the British series there is usually a political or cultural figure that is the opposite from the opposing panel....therefore...more tension....and opportunities for off the cuff humour 😊

HEY CNN, WHAT'S GOING ON AT THE WHITE HOUSE?!? OH WAIT, NEVERMIND. 🤣 I guess there's consequences to lying.

1. February 2020 “Facts First” piece examining Sen. Tom Cotton’s remarks: CNN stated it was “possible, yet unlikely” the Wuhan lab was connected and quoted an expert that one could “draw a line through it and say that didn’t happen.”
2. April 2020 headline and reporting: “Nearly 30% in the US believe a coronavirus theory that’s almost certainly not true,” asserting the virus “wasn’t made in a lab” and “likely originated in a bat, not in a Chinese lab.”
3. May 2020 analysis claiming Anthony Fauci had “crushed” the lab-origin idea advanced by the Trump administration.
4. Segments and commentary (including by Fareed Zakaria and others) framing the lab-leak hypothesis as a “conspiracy theory” or “widely debunked.”
5. Coverage and framing of former CDC Director Robert Redfield’s 2021 statements favoring a lab origin as “controversial” and “without evidence,” while emphasizing WHO assessments that it was “unlikely.”
6. Internal editorial direction (per reporting from a CNN insider) under then-president Jeff Zucker directing staff not to pursue the lab-leak story because it was viewed as a “Trump talking point.”
7. Repeated on-air and online characterizations of lab-origin discussion as misinformation or speculative in the absence of definitive contrary evidence at the time.
8. Alignment with early consensus statements (including those later shown to have involved coordinated drafting to downplay lab scenarios) that treated natural zoonosis as essentially settled.
9. Downplaying or contextualizing intelligence community assessments that later included the FBI (moderate confidence) and Department of Energy (low confidence) favoring a lab origin.
10. Broader pattern of treating lab-leak discussion as fringe while the hypothesis remained unresolved; subsequent U.S. intelligence community assessments remained divided, with several agencies assessing a laboratory incident as plausible or more likely, and no definitive public resolution on either natural spillover or laboratory origin.

These examples center on the most widely documented and repeatedly cited coverage discrepancies. Origin questions remain scientifically and intelligence-wise unresolved with no conclusive public proof of either hypothesis; early categorical dismissals exceeded the available evidence. Other COVID topics (masks in community settings, sterilizing immunity claims for vaccines, natural immunity relative strength, specific therapeutics) saw evolving data across outlets, but the lab-origin framing produced the most sustained, high-profile critiques directed at CNN specifically.

*Dr. Anthony Fauci’s compensation and Wuhan laboratory involvement*
Fauci’s federal salary as NIAID director was approximately $434,000 in 2020, $456,000 in 2021, and $481,000 in 2022 (highest among identifiable federal civilian employees under special pay authorities for senior scientists). Household financial disclosures and analyses by OpenTheBooks indicate net worth rose from roughly $7.6 million in early 2019 to approximately $15 million by the end of 2023, reflecting salary, investment gains, retirement contributions, textbook royalties, and related items. Royalty payments received by Fauci (37 documented between 2010–2021) were predominantly pre-pandemic; only a small number occurred in 2020–2021, and available records do not link them to COVID-19 vaccines or related products. No public evidence supports claims of multi-million-dollar personal profit specifically from COVID-19 vaccines or treatments.

Regarding Wuhan: NIAID under Fauci awarded grants totaling roughly $3.7 million to EcoHealth Alliance. Approximately $600,000 (with some contemporaneous documents indicating figures approaching $800,000 over the period) was sub-awarded to the Wuhan Institute of Virology for bat coronavirus research between 2014 and 2019. Fauci maintained that the work did not meet the contemporaneous NIH definition of gain-of-function research; critics, including some congressional reviews and scientists, have disputed that characterization. The research involved studying bat coronaviruses with potential for human infection. Fauci’s early private emails reflected awareness of laboratory-origin concerns; public statements emphasized natural origin while acknowledging the possibility of laboratory involvement only later.

*CNN financial results during the COVID period*
CNN does not publish a breakout of profit specifically attributable to COVID-19 reporting. Overall figures from tax-return data presented in litigation and contemporaneous analyses show approximate revenue of $2.2 billion (net income ~$600 million) in 2021, $2.0 billion (net income ~$300 million) in 2022, and $1.8 billion (net income ~$400 million) in 2023. 2020 ad revenue for CNN declined in certain quarters relative to the prior year despite elevated viewership, partly because extended live coverage reduced commercial inventory. Cable-news advertising overall remained resilient compared with newspapers, but isolating incremental profit from COVID coverage alone is not feasible from public data; the network’s results reflect the broader news cycle, elections, and other events in addition to the pandemic.
