Heritage Privacy Policy

Effective: November 7, 2026 · This page explains, in plain language, what the Heritage app does — and does not do — with information. The short version: recordings stay on the device, and nothing is collected, by design.

Heritage helps a family record an elder's stories in her own voice. It was built privacy-first: recording works completely offline, recordings and every story detail stay on the device and are never transmitted, it has no accounts, contains no trackers, and collects no personal data. This page is the whole story — if something is not written here, the app does not do it.

01 No data collected

Heritage collects no personal data — not for us, not for anyone else:

  • No account, no sign-in, no email address, no password.
  • No analytics, tracking, or measurement software inside the app — ours or anyone else's.
  • No advertising software and no advertising or device identifiers.
  • Nothing is sold or shared with data brokers, advertisers, or analytics companies — there is nothing to sell or share.

One small, careful exception — and it sends nothing of yours. From version 0.2.0, the app may briefly contact VidNexa's own server to download its configuration: which optional features are available, and any announcement from us. That request carries only the app's own key — no personal data, no recordings, no names, and no analytics or tracking of any kind. Recording and playback work fully offline, and this download never blocks them: if the server cannot be reached, the app simply carries on with its built-in settings.

02 Recordings stay on the device

Every story recorded in Heritage — the audio, the storyteller's name, the language, the guiding question, and any chapter marks — is stored only in the app's private storage on that device. It is never uploaded to VidNexa or to anyone else.

  • Any recording can be deleted inside the app at any time; deleting removes the audio and its details together.
  • Removing the app removes all of its data with it.
  • If a family member chooses to share a recording, they do it themselves, outside the app, using their own tools — Heritage does not transmit it.

03 The microphone

Heritage asks for the microphone permission for one reason only: to record a story when someone taps the record button. The microphone is never used in the background, never used for listening or analysis, and the audio it captures is written straight to the device's private storage described above.

If the permission is refused, the rest of the app — the question library and the family archive — still works; only recording is unavailable.

05 Names and story details

The details a family enters — the storyteller's name, her language, the question a story answers, chapter names — exist so the family's archive makes sense. They are stored in small files on the device, next to the recordings they describe, and they follow the same rule: on the device only, never transmitted, deleted with the recording.

06 Who Heritage is for

Heritage is made for adults who want to preserve an elder's stories. It is not designed for children, it contains no advertising, and in this version it contains no purchases. The storyteller's own agreement (section 04) is always required before recording begins, whoever holds the phone.

07 Changes and future features

Heritage is being developed in phases. Beyond the configuration download described in section 01, a future version may offer optional online features — for example, turning a recorded story into a film, or sharing a finished film with family members in other places. If that happens:

  • This policy will be updated first, before any such feature is switched on.
  • Nothing will ever leave a device without the family's clear action and the storyteller's consent.
  • The offline recording at the heart of Heritage will always remain offline.

If we change this policy, we will update the date at the top of this page.
