US President Donald Trump on Sunday blamed immigration for unrest during protests in France and urged the country to tighten its migration rules. Trump's post comes after similar comments made by Vice President JD Vance on Saturday. Vance, who is seen as a potential presidential candidate in the 2028 election, also drew a connection to upcoming midterm races for congressional seats on November 3, where Republicans are not expected to perform well. FRANCE 24's Fraser Jackson reports from the United States.

It's rather the other way around. Their incompetent war-mongering in the Middle East and disastrous economic management have caused a global cost-of-living crisis and recession. Or do they think that Japanese consumers are excited about price hikes of 82% since February for staple goods like rice, or that US farmers are excited by $7.5 per gallon diesel, or that European consumers are excited by 211% price increases for gas futures?

After Trump's 'excursions' with Netanyahu into the abyss of chaos and carnage causing ever higher prices for everything for everyone everywhere is undoubtedly a factor, so are the consequences of 5 decades of neoliberalism, capitalism on steroids where more is never enough, privatisation of all public services, assets, deregulation, self-regulation, war on the so-called welfare state and ever lower taxes for big corporate and billionaires creating unprecedented inequality, homelessness, unaffordable housing.
