LGE 2026 | First day of special voting ends

It's a few minutes after 5 pm, and polling stations across the country have now closed, on what has been the first day of Special Votes.

The IEC has now officially switched from preparatory, to implementation mode.

Some 2.6 million people approved for special voting, because they either cannot get to their polling stations on Wednesday, due to infirmity or some other immobility, or they are part of the cohorts of professionals who will be away from their voting districts on the day.
