what a terrible way to go
The photo taken immediately before the crash shows the horizontal stabilizers missing. The horizontal stabilizers were sheared off by turbulence, causing an immediate loss of pitch control and ultimately leading to the catastrophic crash.

As a pilot, never flown a Lear but those things are getting very long in the tooth. No point putting on the tin foil hats or guessing too far into it. The tail looked twisted from the stills I've seen but that's likely due to the 20000fpm decent rate reported. That thing turned into a lawn dart. Maybe icing, maybe control failure.

If you look at the weather radar and look at the course of the plane. It went right thru the center of a cell. The precip from that combined with very cold temps, that did it. Get a real expert. Not a chopper pilot.

Why do planes and helicopters keep falling out of the air?
Pilot's responsibility to check weather and respond to changes. They could have asked ATC to divert and did not. ATC warned about area of potential ice.

Finally, an angle that shows the car that was pulling out in the video. So close there are pieces of debris under it, one of the tires is flat, and it looks like the airbags deployed. As intact as it is, though, if the people inside had died, they'd have easily been recovered and counted as casualties, so they must have survived. Hopefully their injuries weren't severe from being so close to the impact.
