"We're overdependent on the United States." In an interview with DW, Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney explains why Canada is seeking to diversify its economic and strategic partnerships. Speaking to DW's Katharina Kroll at the Canada-EU summit in Montreal, Carney argues that closer cooperation with Europe is now a priority as Ottawa and Brussels launch a new long-term partnership initiative.

Prime Minister Carney espouses all ingredients to make him a genuine Leader in the constructive sense , his answers are well balanced , never evasive , and outright amiable. A seldom occurrence in our time and age. Hi from the NL
Si me permiten y como Europeo . El sentido común así lo dice , si es que nos queda algo. Por cierto Canadienses ,tienen mucha suerte con su primer ministro.
Mark Carney is a gaslighting Orwellian tyrant. Canada is going to spend decades unraveling the damage done by Trudeau and now Carney. Ask any EU member country if they are more or less sovereign by being in the EU—more members want to leave than nonmembers want to join. Also, the only thing that broke—or “ruptured”—is U.S. patience with allies who have been free-riding within the NATO alliance while also maintaining unsustainable trade deficits. For decades. Hearing Carney and the Brussels set describe this as a rupture is like listening to a 50 year old trust fund man-child melodramatically whine to his parents upon learning that, going forward, he has to get a job and start paying for his own expensive lifestyle choices.

The U.S. needs to withdraw from NATO and form bilateral defense and security treaties with likeminded sovereign countries.

The coalition of willing is broke, their militaries are hollowed out and literally incapable of helping Ukraine, and they are all rapidly deindustrializing—and they are all between 10-15 years away from any shot at being militarily self-sufficient. The U.S. should stop giving hostile foreign actors like Canada and the EU any form of assistance which disadvantages the U.S.—you know, show what a real rupture looks and feels like.
As a Canadian, strong agreements are great but our sovereignty and borders should not be compromised. We have three layers of bureaucracy in Canada...soon to be four- District, Provincial, and Federal. The First Nations layer is the emerging one. For large projects, it makes it very challenging and expensive. I hope Carney is not looking at an association with the EU that would bring on a fifth layer. I think investment in Canada would flee at that point. Given all the issues the EU has been having with illegal migration, our borders should not disappear with the EU.
This should be a wakeup call for USA . They will need to fix their criteria to the political system currently operated under. Eg... age limitations to run for POTUS. More checks and balances of POTUS. Definitely retirement ages for sitting Senators and Congressman. Truth in campaigns would also be good , unlike the abuse ,bullying and slandering Trump liked doing.
SLAVA UKRAINE 🇺🇦
👍🇭🇲🦘
Germany, France, Italy, and Greece have already pushed back on this proposal. Without their support, it’s going nowhere. The fact that Carney and Von der Leyen continue promoting “associate membership” despite this opposition tells you everything you need to know. This is political theater, not a serious agreement.
You know your country's reputation is in the mud when even the overly-polite Canadians go on international TV to publicly announce they are slowly backing away from you.
We are not changing loyalties. We are just making new friends. Our old friend has gone down the rabbit hole of far right conspiracy.
All of us have had it happen to us in real life.
Now it is just happening on a national level
