This interview exposes the terminal credibility crisis facing Western-led climate initiatives. It is a profound double standard to watch the CEO of a coalition openly backed by major fossil fuel producers and heavy industrial conglomerates dictate carbon accounting and reporting metrics on an international stage, while her home country—the world's largest historical polluter—actively repeals emissions penalties, labels climate change a 'con job,' and expands coal mining under federal policies like 'Reinvigorating America’s Beautiful Clean Coal Industry.' When a global superpower acts as a domestic outlier but its corporate elite design the regulatory frameworks for everyone else, it creates a massive deficit of trust. Voluntary compliance tools cannot mask the fact that the system expects the rest of the world to mitigate while the framework's own sponsors remain among the world's largest contributors to corporate emissions.
