The trial into the 2022 bombing of the Nord Stream pipelines has started in Hamburg. Ukrainian national Serhii Kuznietsov faces charges of committing a war crime, preparing an explosion and disrupting public services. Prosecutors accuse Kuznietsov, a captain in the Ukrainian army, of carrying out the attack on behalf of state agencies in Ukraine. He denies the charges.
The pipelines

1) do not belong to Germany at all (they are owned by a Swiss subsidiary of Russia’s Gazprom),
2) had been out of service for a month, so the attack did not interrupt gas transport—since Putin had already turned off the gas tap in August 2022—,
3) the bombing took place in international waters, and
4) could be considered a legitimate military target for the same reasons as oil refineries later in the war: because they generated revenue for Putin's war machine.

So I wonder why Germany should even pursue legal action when a useless Russian pipeline on the seabed—one that didn’t belong to us—was destroyed?

A war crime is bombing a school full of children. A war crime is the genocide in gaza. Blowing up a gas pipeline is a tactic of war, where in this case, nobody died. It's as if this case is being conducted in the USA under Trump due to the absurdity of it all.

People on here defending Ukraine all because they want them to win, no matter what country or what person it hurts.
I would like to see Ukraine push back russia, just not in a way where they have to bite the hand that feeds them.
Without Europe or America Ukraine wouldn't be whereit is now.

To many people who profited crazily by this act, from Russia, to Ukraine over USA to the Middle East countries. Germany was already going to close it up as a sanction to Russia, so only thing achieved was that even after the war that pipeline will stay empty.
@@macaccount4315Imported3wk ago
Anyone would do this if a country did what Russia did to Ukraine. It was the correct thing to do.
@@JuneBannister-k4sImported3wk ago
CIA probably funded it.
@@BoogerJimImported3wk ago
Lots of chuds in here who were condeming russia for doing it and saying it was right for ukraine to do it. Especially funny conaidering their past rhetoric
@@frando2479Imported3wk ago
Honestly, as a German citizen, I am somewhat thankful someone did this. I'd rather have some foreign special operations destroy this pipeline, than seeing another Euro flow to Russia
@@z_6474Imported3wk ago
Why is this a war crime? This is a legitimate act of war in defense of their nation and of Europe more broadly. If Germany is so concerned, stop buying their gas!

Zelensky ordered this.
@@falseprophet7573Imported3wk ago
He was merely following orders from his boss, Zelensky. Zelensky himself should be prosecuted as a war criminal
