Pope Leo XIV had a cancerous growth removed from his right lung in a 90-minute operation on Tuesday and "woke up normally" after the procedure, the Vatican said. A Vatican source said further tests were being carried out to determine if the cancer had spread. "To ensure the procedure was radical, the lower lobe of the right lung was removed," the Vatican said in a statement. FRANCE 24's Seema Gupta reports from Rome.

They have to examine the lymph nodes close to the area to make a determination if the cancer has spread. If it has not, then no more treatment is needed. If there is anything else, then he may need radiation, and/or chemo, and immunotherapy. Lung cancer treatment is very advanced nowadays. If found on early stages it can be treated and even totally cured.
