Polonezköy, formerly known as Adampol, is a Polish village in Turkey, near Istanbul. Founded in 1842, during the partitions of Poland, it was for centuries a refuge and center of Polish culture in the Ottoman Empire.
Today, Polonezköy remains a symbol of Polish–Turkish ties and an international crossroads. The annual Cherry Festival brings together Polish and Turkish traditions, celebrating the coexistence of two religions and the shared historical heritage of both countries. But for the first time in the village’s history, the residents of Polonezköy have elected a mayor who is not of Polish origin, but Turkish.
TVP World’s reporter Gabriela Jelonek travelled to Polonezköy to explore the significance of the village in today’s Polish-Turkish relations and the impact of this historic change. Discover the story behind this unique island of Polishness in the special report “Adampol: Little Poland in Turkey.”
