Yes we must be extremely careful about AI. We cannot leave it to the business community alone as they may not be able to see the wood for the trees ( as the saying goes ). I appreciate the Pope lending his voice in support of a cautious approach to this technology. As a pastor it is his duty to consider the danger to all people.

Let’s be real

The only reason they want to put “guard rails” on AI is because of copyright issues, Right wing politics and the possibly that it might kill the entertainment industry.

papa leo is correct, even today we've seen interviews in business channels guests trying to launder the blame, most people understand that machine learning tools don't automatically go and hack (even when those weren't "asked" to) it's based on training data (monkey see, monkey do) and that responsibility is on the shoulders of sam altman and elon musk types pushing too fast, their whole dataset for training is tainted, nvidia's jensen huang putting a cage on those models is a temporary fix, it's doesn't solve the underlying issue, to make a jarvis you start with the good stuff and keep adding good dataset, you don't start by building ultron and then act bewildered like elon musk "why are my models so evil!"

Internal guardrails won't change anything. We have already nearly started WW3 because the US military was using AI to choose targets in the Strait of Hormuz. AI said that a Chinese ship was carrying nuclear weapon parts to Iran. The order to fire on the ship got all the way to mission operators before someone called bullshit. AI could end us without "going rogue", just by us putting unwarranted faith in it.
