Moscow promised Crimea prosperity, stability, and reliable infrastructure. But after a massive Ukrainian drone strike on energy facilities, the occupied peninsula was left facing widespread blackouts, water supply disruptions, and communication problems.
A fire at the Taman substation in Russia’s Krasnodar region, a key part of the electricity supply route to Crimea, added to the damage. Power outages affected Sevastopol, Simferopol, Yalta, and other areas. While the occupation authorities blamed problems with the power grid and introduced scheduled restrictions, residents struggled to access electricity, water, and even a reliable internet connection. So much for the promised Russian prosperity.
The crisis has exposed the vulnerability of the energy infrastructure supplying occupied Crimea and highlighted the gap between Moscow’s grand promises and everyday life on the peninsula.
