Houthiss are not a rag-tag bunch. In fact, whether we like it or not, they are very organized fighting force. And in control of the capital of Yaman, Sanaa. And the area that 80% of Yemenis reside.
The “internationally Recognized Government “ of Yaman is made up of 9 different tribes and foreign mercenaries, all supported by Saudi Arabia and UAE. The latest news from eastern Yemen is that some tribes from “government” forces are changing sides and joining the Houthis. And most of the mercenaries are leaving, all because Tribesmen and mercenaries are not being paid by their paymasters UAE and Saudi Arabia.
STOP MISINFORMING YOUR AUDIENCE.🙊🙉🙈

Yemen is fighting for its life. Every time Saudi-backed forces retreat, the Saudi air force air strikes the entire place and kills, maims and displaces countless Yemeni civilians.

KSA has repeatedly waged wars, sanctions and proxy wars against Yemen for more than a century. Most of historic Northwest Yemen has been occupied and annexed by KSA since the early-20th century. The Saudis invaded and lost against Ansarullah in the 2000s too.

75 to 80% of the Yemeni population live in Ansarullah territory. The majority of them and even a large chunk of Southern Yemenis support Ansarullah's government. Most Yemenis have been victims of air strikes, thirst, starvation and disease due to the Saudi, Emirati, Egyptian and US led blockade and siege. They don't support the powers responsible for it and their local proxies.

That's why Ansarullah has a huge amount of soldiers whereas their opponents are filled with phantom soldiers. They aren't the national government of Yemen and they're not even unified. It's a joke that the UN recognizes them as such while not engaging with the actual government that governs most Yemenis.

Foreign mercenaries hired by KSA and UAE are Sudanese, Chadians and Colombians. Many Saudi air force pilots are Pakistani nationals. There are also thousands of Pakistani troops stationed in KSA going back decades.

Ansarullah was founded by Zaydis, and after they became the de-facto government in 2014, their soldiers, allied soldiers and supporters include Shafi'i Sunnis as well as Sulaymani Isma'ilis, Dawoodi Isma'ilis and irreligion. Their opponents backed by KSA and/or UAE also include soldiers and supporters that are Zaydis, Shafi'i Sunnis, Isma'ilis, irreligion as well as Salafists.

Zaydis and Ibadis are considered within the Fold of Islam from a Sunni POV. There are no medieval edicts against them like there are with Twelvers, Alawites and Isma'ilis because their respective beliefs are different. Even Daesh and AQ don't complain about Zaydi Shi'ism. Instead, they adopted a conspiracy theory in the 2010s claiming Ansarullah and Al-Houthis secretly converted to Twelver Shi'ism to theologically justify fighting them.
