How is the US viewing Canada's latest pitch towards Europe? Prime Minister Mark Carney used a speech to the European Parliament to strengthen Canada’s ties with Europe while taking another swipe at Donald Trump. His comments come as the EU signals it could deepen its relationship with Canada, potentially including associate membership. But how is this all going down south of the border?

About time. Like CANZUK, the association between Canada and Europe has much more appeal than one might first think. Shared values, complementary export product lines, and of course stability. Perhaps the next US administration will return things to normal, but who is to say it won't flip back again with the next autocratic US president? As a trading partner, the US is unstable, and long-term it will continue to pose a reliability risk to the rest of the world. It will take decades to fix, so a Canadian - European trade partnership is very pragmatic. As an Australian, I only wish our government here would consider NOT putting so much reliance on the Australia - China trade relationship. This could easily go the same way ...
Trade between Canada and United States has gone from 75% now to 66%. I don’t know why you have an American in Florida talking about anything to do with Canada regardless what she says she does for a living or what she knows.
Please do better
Carney just proved to everyone, that it wasn't Canada to walked away from trade talks with the US, and that the US wanted to dictate who we could trade with! Just look at Trumps threats to the EU if they make Canada an associate member..... Its plain and clear in Trumps head Canada belongs to the USA....
5.1% U.S. 3rd quarter GDP growth estimate -- Atlanta Federal Reserve.
Canada & Europe are in recession, especially when considering inflated GDP growth from illegal migration.
I don't really eat pancakes. You would want syrup for pancake and even waffles but. I haven't eaten pancakes in years. I don't drink anymore and always thought Crown Royal was over priced and the flavor didn't stand out. I don't see anything we need from them. Maybe Europe will screw them now. 😄
Why are you talking to an American about Canadian and European union plans? You have no idea how spiteful Canadians will be. We live up here because nature will not tell us what to do. We have the Juno beach Jean. We want this fight. We started sending them the smoke this summer. Always Canada 🇨🇦 😊. True north, strong and free 💪 elbows up!
Worse case scenario we're a super tech savvy Cuba with better friends. And a LOT of energy. We'll be fine for a while then we'll be better than ever. Face it. America has become a drag. We're cutting loose and hoping the smart money follows us before the fall. I hope for a controlled deflation of the US dollar. Heck, isn't that what Turmp wants? Crash the bond market. Crash the dollar. Crash Wall-street. Buy the dip.
Carney never mentions EU membership when elected, so he's on very thin ice with this adventure. Unless the Canadians are super compliant, Carney will hit a wall here.
You appear to have missed the point here. You cannot make a deal with Trump - he only understands extortion. If you can pay what he demands, he will conclude that he didn't steal enough the first time around. I would think Australia would understand this as they watch themselves get screwed on the AUKUS debacle.
Ok if Canada is so bad, why care. Canada 🇨🇦 has things the u.s needs. Electricity, nickel, oil. America has to realize. Djt is a laughing stock. The word is reorganizing.
Europe feels like a natural partner for Canada: shared democratic values, strong institutions, deep cultural ties, and a similar view of the world. Strengthening that relationship isn’t about turning away from the U.S., it’s about Canada building closer ties with partners that increasingly feel aligned with who we are.
Ah yes. Canada and EU simultaneously not a threat and laughable... But also Trump needs to levy tariffs because they're hostile to the US merely for trading with each other.
