In 5 years, the us will probably be the 29th EU state

Are we really separated by an ocean? On my map Greenland an Canada are not much further apart than the U.K. and Norway or even France. Not that it matters IMHO. The EU is based on a common belief system how countries should work together not on some geographic, hence it can, and I think should transcend these limits.

Ukraine and UK cannot provide energy and Arctic security. Russia is all set to start an offensive. Canada is the safest manufacturing base for armaments.

This is why Trump is one of the greatest presidents ever.

Well some people would see an ocean as a moat to keep people out but Carney has a vision of it as a causeway to join Canada with Europe.

American values have shifted far away from other democratic nations since the turn of the century, but it took Donald Trump to tear the veil off the autocracy. We Canadians are merely reacting to it.

You have to be pretty blinded by Exceptionalism to imagine Canada is "fleeing" towards the EU as though it's some freakish idea. We have long historical ties to Europe, eg we're part of the Commonwealth the English King is also our King, and our socio-political system has way more in common with Europe than the US.

Canada and the EU are not going to do something to the US they're going to do something without the US. Perhaps not a power bloc but definitely a trading bloc with better manners

So if america levies tarriffs,countries just join NATO to take on the united states. Sounds like NATO has become a threat to the united states.

Fleeing is not the right word. I would have said, turning the back on...
@andreasrusso-frisk5047
Alliances should be made based on shared ideologies, not by geographical location. I'm thrilled to see a closer cooperation between EU and Canada.

No this speech would not have been given to the US. You are missing the points on our sovereignty and democratic values. Canada is not fleeing from the US but diversifying is essential.

Based on the speech and particularly regarding students and work visas for young people this feels more like another version of the Commonwealth but with Europe.

5:40 - Canada is getting this 'special treatment' because it has more natural resources than all other members of the EU combined. Bring Canada onboard and you never have to go to China for minerals or or rare Earths ever again. Bring Canada onboard and you no longer have to worry about getting LNG from Russia.

Things change. The US is finally forcing Canada to quit with it's unfair trading practices to the US or face the consequences. Many of the same unfair Canadian trading practices that has forced some EU countries to decline signing the free trade agreement with Canada for a decade

Donald Trump is alienated the world he stirred up all kinds of trouble as far as I'm concerned Donald Trump and his family are waist deep in Putin's Russia and as far as I can see the United States is stirred up Venezuela choked off Cuba and went to the Middle East and Donald Trump didn't do that for Israel he did that for himself his own Pockets like he has all along and then you have Israel Netanyahu destroying murdering killing and occupying it's unbelievable that the United States is still actively selling weapons to Israel

Greece already became an associate member in 1961. So no, it is not new. And why on earth would the EU grant that to the UK? As Theresa May famously said: brexit means brexit.

Carney has his work cut out for him. A lot of positive talk, but getting every EU member to agree on a new relationship between Canada and the EU could be an uphill battle. It's important to note that the existing Canada-EU trade agreement, CETA, has not even been ratified by all the member states. Some members may also see Canada as trying to get EU benefits without being full members.
