Major-General Feroz Khan has been dismissed from the South African Police Service (SAPS), bringing another dramatic chapter in the career of the former Crime Intelligence deputy head.
SAPS says Khan was deemed dismissed after failing to appear before the officer handling his expedited disciplinary process.
His legal team disputes the fairness of the process, and has indicated that they will challenge the dismissal in court.
Khan's dismissal comes amid a series of legal and disciplinary battles, his shooting in June, and his failure to appear before the Madlanga Commission, where serious allegations concerning him have been aired.
He has not yet testified before the Commission, and the allegations remain untested. So, was Khan's dismissal procedurally fair, and what are his chances of successfully challenging it?
Dr Suhayfa Bhamjee, Discipline Head of Public Law at the University of KwaZulu-Natal joins us to unpack these issues.
