It's been another day of explosive testimony and revelations as Mpumalanga taxi boss Joe Sibanyoni returned to the inquiry. This as the Commission probes claims over his alleged links to organised crime, extortion, contract killings and the manipulation of high-value government contracts. Before lunch, the Commission spent time questioning him about his dealings with bus company Putco.
He denied that he had been involved in a corrupt deal between government and a Putco bus operator.
After lunch, however, Evidence leader Matthew Chaskalson moved to Sibanyoni's relationship with the police and a chain of events that happened in March 2025 including Gubis 85 Solutions, a company that received R60 million in irregular security-tender payments from the Tshwane Metro Police Department.
He'd previously testified that police had provided escorts in taxi matters.
Canny Maphanga reports.
