Please, look up the islands online and get a map. This interview is neglecting the historical and geographical context of the meeting.
Let's be clear about this because the experts are not. A tiny body of water separates Canada and France. Canadian and French territory. That sliver of water is the border between France and Canada, France is often referred to as the Mother of European Canada, France is now finally being recognized as Canada's direct neighbor. It is not the size of these islands, it is that they are France and Canada is next door! Canada in its founding and in its reality today is E U R O P E A N ! Europe now is a greater territory of civilized and advanced nations, obviously Canada prefers a marriage between civilized partners rather than rough uncouth America. I trust this is a better summary than can be found with "the experts"!
