The Southern African Alcohol Policy Alliance and the Wits School of Public Health have released a study revealing that high alcohol availability and consumption contribute to an increased risk of Gender-Based Violence.
The study was conducted across eight communities in South Africa, Lesotho, Botswana and Namibia.
Key findings in the research show that unlicensed alcohol retailers in the study communities vastly outnumbered licensed outlets.
Only 33% of the outlets across the four countries were licensed, as captured in official records.
