Eve Irvine is pleased to welcome Felipe Krause, the head of Oxford University's Brazilian Studies Programme. Brazil's election reflects a political landscape that has become increasingly polarized, explains Krause. And he describes the current mood as one of “tired polarization: People are just exhausted. They feel that the political class is just kind of offering more of the same". The first round reveals a significant consolidation of the Brazilian right in government. Brazil's expanding middle class is increasingly attracted to entrepreneurialism and individualism, constituencies that "Bolsonarismo" has proved particularly effective at reaching.

Most International media is ignoring one of the main components of this election: the Supreme Court shenanigans and lack of accountability

The population massively voted on PL party so it could impeach members of the court, after the court monocraticaly changed laws from 1952 about the requirements to impeach it's members

I know that people are going to say, this mirrors America's election, but it doesn't. Cousin Donald is doing a fabulous job in America, Bolsonaro is not like Dr. Alice, Madame Le Pen, Rupert Lowe, Pauline or Cousin Donald....he has a great deal more baggage than all these candidates put together.....and, France 24, we do think for ourselves, and yes, returning home to England, I'm NY Toms very British/Brazilian future wife MD....( enjoyed the E with the line through it, LOL!!!) Yes, that would be Tom from NY Brazil:)

Also let's not lose track of how arrogant and poorly informed the Brazilian middle class is.

Lula cannot count on the abstention in his favor.
The highest abstention was in the south-east and the centre-west ie. in the more typically right-wing areas,
whereas the lowest abstention was in the northeast and the north ie. in the more typically left-wing areas.
Not to mention that the abstention was only slightly higher (+0,13%) compared to the last elections.

Prediction: That "growing middle class" will become lower class if they're dumb enough to elect Balsonaro. As if that dude gives a crap about anyone other than himself and a handful of cronies.

This election parallels the US 2024 presidential election in so many ways.
