Eskom has disconnected nearly two thousand homes that were found to be illegally connected to its network at Lion Park in Camperdown near Pietermaritzburg.
The power utility conducted an intensive two-day operation targeting illegal electricity connections in the area which is estimated to cost Eskom nearly R14-million a year.
The utility partnered with police, who maintained a strong presence in the area following protests that erupted yesterday.
Disgruntled community members barricaded roads in an attempt to prevent Eskom officials from accessing the electricity network.
