A Thaba Nchu woman is crying foul after police failed to open a case, following the death of her 73-year-old mother, who allegedly died after a dog attack.
Boitumelo Tshona says her mother, who suffered from dementia and bipolar disorder, lost her way home and was later found on a farm. Tshona alleges that farm workers treated her mother inhumanely.
The SAPS has since admitted that Tshona was initially turned away because police insisted that the victim open the case herself.
The police now say they are making efforts to resolve the matter, even if the case is based on hearsay evidence.
