With South Africa gearing up to host the crucial 2026 local government elections, Auditor-General Tsakani Maluleke has warned of a potential threat of regression in municipalities, which often accompanies a change in political leadership.
Maluleke has strongly urged both citizens and political parties to choose capable leaders who will actively restore public trust and safeguard the progress already made in some municipalities across the country.
The Auditor-General was speaking at the launch of the CoGTA-AGSA 10x10 Forum alongside Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs Minister, Velenkosini Hlabisa.
