China launched a new test satellite for satellite internet technology in the early hours of Sunday. The satellite was launched at 02:07 a.m. (Beijing Time) from the Xichang Satellite Launch Center, in the southwestern province of Sichuan, on a Long March-2D carrier rocket. It has entered its preset orbit and will primarily be used to conduct technology tests and verifications, including direct satellite-to-phone broadband connectivity and space-ground network integration.
The launch marked the 646th flight mission of the Long March carrier rocket series.
