ANC member Mandla Tawana has described former North West Premier Bushy Maape as a freedom fighter who always placed the needs of others before his own.
Maape passed away at the age of 68 at a Johannesburg hospital yesterday following a short illness.
Tawana says Maape believed in defending the Constitution above all else and will be remembered for his caring nature, infectious laughter, and the love he shared with family and friends.
He says Maape's memory will forever remain in their hearts, and that his legacy will live on through the many lives he touched.
