A localized ceasefire has come into effect in the Russian-occupied town of Oleshky, allowing humanitarian aid deliveries and civilian evacuations after months of isolation. The truce was coordinated by US First Lady Melania Trump together with Ukrainian Human Rights Commissioner Dmytro Lubinets and Russia's Human Rights Commissioner Yana Lantratova. But the ceasefire applies only to Oleshky: overnight Russian strikes again hit Kyiv, underscoring how limited the pause remains. DW Kyiv Correspondent Rebecca Ritters joins us with the latest.

This is all just empty talk. Yet, for some reason, no one points to the actual cause of the humanitarian catastrophe in Oleshky. Since 2022, this city has been in an area under Russian occupation. Starting in May 2026, the Ukrainian army began consistently targeting all humanitarian convoys heading to the city with drone strikes. As a result, the local residents have been brought to the brink of extinction. For the ultra-nationalist regime in Kyiv, the lives of civilians simply do not matter.
All humanitarian is good. The biggest question is was this the pope's operation or the person that's taking credit? 🤷♂️ My suspension is the Pope. 🤷♂️
Ridiculous that Melanie Trump coordinated anything. Did she travel anywhere, speak to anyone? This is a Russian souvenir for Trump. What a credulous report.
But what they not saying is Russia controls most of the town but Ukraine keeps shelling the people and Russian military so no food can be brought in by Russia but western media will lie fir Ukraine but truth will all be revealed
Russia blends conventional military force with sub-threshold operations—including cyberattacks, disinformation, political subversion, economic coercion, and infrastructure sabotage. Managed heavily by the Kremlin's intelligence services, its goal is to exploit internal social fractures, destabilize democratic institutions, and project power globally without triggering an all-out military conflict. ...SINCE FOREVER!!
But they aren't telling you is this is the Russian held area And is is Ukraine that is causing the humanitarian issues. Once again Comm You can't count on a government funded news source to tell you accurate information.
Russia means well,it's just the crazy Zelensky who wants to continue the war in order to hang on to power and enrich himself.Wakeup Ukrainians. Bravo 🇷🇺
If Melania succeeded in making a ceasefire in one city, her husband made things many times worse for the whole world. A city in a complete ruins, but peace is present there. Who are we fooling with this?
