New SARS Commissioner, Dr Ngobani Johnstone Makhubu, says he plans to accelerate the work initiated by his predecessor, Edward Kieswetter.
This includes looking at ways to expand the tax base, zoning in on the illicit economy, and continuing the work to chase tax debt owed to SARS.
Makhubu says engaging with the industry, particularly tax practitioners, will be key, as they serve a critical role in the bridge between taxpayers and SARS.
The Commissioner was speaking on the sidelines of the opening of a new SARS service centre in Newtown, Johannesburg.
