FBI arrests OpenAI engineer for planting covert recording device

A 35-year-old Saudi national who worked as an OpenAI engineer was arrested and charged with installing a hidden audio recording device in an executive conference room at the AI company, the US Justice Department said on Tuesday (Oct 13).

The thumb-sized device, concealed in toilet paper, was discovered plugged into a USB port behind a television at OpenAI's San Francisco office on Sep 30.

Investigators later found a similar customised device in the man's personal bag. #openai
