What does NATO's newly unveiled "Theory of Victory" mean for the Baltic states, including Estonia? The question was among the key topics discussed at the Warsaw Security Forum. In an interview with TVP World, Margus Tsahkna, Estonia's foreign minister, said it was a step in the right direction for NATO to share publicly its defense plans.
“We are getting rid of the fear of talking about what we are capable of,” he says. According to Tsahkna, this sends an important signal to European societies that want reassurance that NATO has plans, capabilities, and the readiness to respond to potential Russian aggression.
The minister also warned that disinformation and sabotage remain serious challenges for Europe. “Russia is trying to play on fears and divide our societies,” Tsahkna says. In his view, NATO is ready to fight today if Putin chooses to escalate against the Alliance.
Tsahkna argues that Russia is currently heavily tied down by the war in Ukraine and that NATO's priority must be to prevent the Kremlin from making the same strategic miscalculation it made in 2022. He stresses that clear red lines and credible military plans are essential to deterrence.
